“Traumatized people chronically feel unsafe inside their bodies: The past is alive in the form of gnawing interior discomfort. Their bodies are constantly bombarded by visceral warning signs, and, in an attempt to control these processes, they often become expert at ignoring their gut feelings and in numbing awareness of what is played out inside. They learn to hide from their selves.” (p.97)”

We often associate trauma with soldiers in combat or threats of terrorism. However, the experience of trauma can be within everyday life.. It could be present in our family systems with early developmental trauma, the intimate relationships we are in, from our painful experience of interacting with others in our social systems e.g. bullying. Trauma is not the same for everyone. The clinical presentation may be anxiety or depression or not coping with daily life and functioning withemerging problems with sleep. The experience can be overwhelming in the interconnected systems that affect the development of the brain, mind and body awareness.
The therapies I offer include the Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) and the Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM) and they are part of new approaches to trauma. The therapies work differently and facilitate the clearing of body memories and trauma affects slowly and carefully. DBR identifies shock as significant in releasing body memories with the processing of body sensations and core emotions as a key part in trauma therapy. CRM introduces layers of resources such as breathing, body grids and various other supports to work with younger parts of the self holding the pain. Working with the knowledge of the plasticity of the brain and through tapping into the brain’s innate healing systems, the approaches aim to reduce the trauma burden and the experience of overwhelm. For more information on these models, there are videos and websites available on the Home page. Some of the feedback from clients, listed below, sheds light on their experience of this type of therapy.

"I would just like to say a big thank you. Especially after yesterday session. Yesterday felt like I have gone to the next stage? I felt so much more energetic in the afternoon. With your help I feel so much better from when we first met. I feel more in control of myself and have confidence to learn more about myself. I would highly recommend the treatment".

"Katie has always been there for me.
I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder at the end of 2019 and have been working with Katie for over 3 years. During this time, she tried various approaches, including breathing techniques, CRM, and some Dialectical Behavioral Therapy techniques, to help me and we finally moved onto DBR. Katie, as a psychologist, is professional, efficient, responsible, flexible, and punctual, on top of everything, she cares about me. She has done a brilliant job of caring about me but holding strong boundaries at the same time. Because of the perfect balance, she has been keeping, I feel I can always count on her, in fact, she has been there for me almost every week in the last few years. The DBR technique mostly skips talking (words) and allows the patient to face his/her pain or issues directly, which was just what I needed, as after years of other therapies before this, I found out that talking was not sufficient for my recovery. The effect of DBR during each session was sensational, it gives me the opportunity of being with the real me or to stay with my real feelings or emotions. I was sitting there with myself, my pain, my feelings, and Katie (not alone). To be honest, working with me is very challenging because of the complexity of the trauma I have been through. It definitely requires a lot of patience, resourcefulness, and determination. I am grateful that Katie went through countless cycles with me, and sometimes it even seemed like things were completely stuck, but she is still here to date. I am much much better and my mental health is still improving. I have mostly stopped looking outwards, blaming other people or their faults, or trying to change others, instead, I am mostly looking for anything about myself that I can work on."
Best wishes.
